Classical Homeopathy in Malvern

What is homeopathy?

Go to Top

Homeopathy at the Beacon Clinic in Malvern is a gentle and effective system of medicine used to treat a wide range of acute and more long-term problems. A remedy is prescribed which stimulates the body's own healing mechanism and gently supports that process.

We recognise that all symptoms of ill health are expressions of disharmony within the whole person and that it is the person who needs treatment not the disease.

In 1786 a German doctor, Samuel Hahnemann, developed a system of medicine, which he called homeopathy, based on three main principles:

  1. Treating like with like, the principle that a substance, which causes disease in a healthy person, will treat those symptoms in a sick one. For example we use minute doses of coffee to treat nervous insomnia.
  2. Treating the individual. Everyone experiences disease or disharmony in their own individual way, reflecting their own weak area. For example if the whole family get a cold they will each show individual symptoms, one will get a sore throat, one sinus pain another will have a constantly running nose these are all triggered by the same virus. We are interested in what makes each person different and in what way.
  3. Using the minimum dose. We use only enough medicine to trigger the systems own healing response. In some cases this can be just a single tablet once a month while some need daily doses. This again depends on the nature of the individual as well as the nature of the disease.

What will the treatment be like?

Go to Top

The treatment will usually be in the form of tablet or tablets. Sometimes we will give you a daily dose depending on your energy levels and the nature of the main complaint.

Occasionally 'homoeopathic aggravation' occurs with a brief return of some old symptoms. If this happens it is likely to be a brief return of some old symptoms and should be thought of as 'spring cleaning'. These symptoms will pass and are best left untreated, as they are an important part of the healing process. If however anything happens that concerns you, you can always ring and talk it through.

Homoeopathic remedies are non-toxic and you cannot become addicted to them. They are safe and gentle enough to be used during pregnancy and for young babies and children.

Can I use homeopathy alongside other medication?

Go to Top

Homeopathy is compatible with most prescribed drugs and treatments. If the symptoms improve to such an extent that the patient is interested in reducing their prescribed medication we always advise the patient to go back to their GP to discuss the matter.

We always refer back to the GP if the patient has any symptoms that need further assessment.

How long does the treatment last?

Go to Top

This varies for each individual depending on how long they have had the complaint and their overall state of health. Acute complaints tend to improve rapidly whilst slowly developing or deep seated complaints can take longer. Babies and children progress generally faster as their energy is better.

With chronic complaints we tend to agree a contract of appointments, usually four, with the patient. Homeopathy is not a quick fix and chronic symptoms usually need several months of treatment before satisfactory long term improvement is achieved. The body heals itself as fast as it is able, patience and the recognition of working with the natural healing process are also required.
