Martin began his path into medicine starting at St Bartholomew’s Medical College, London, where he qualified in 1981. He then gained subsequent positions and qualifications in emergency medicine, intensive care, anaesthetics, paediatrics, obstetrics, gynaecology, and General Practice.

He began his classical acupuncture training in 1982 with Prof. Jack Worsley at the College of Traditional Acupuncture, gaining his Licentiate in Acupuncture in 1986. He left the NHS in 1988 to focus his medical career on acupuncture. After eleven years of study and practice he was awarded the title 'Acupuncture Master' however he continued to study with Professor Worsley for another 8 years.

Martin returned to his ancestral home of Malvern in 1988. Here, he initially set up the Clinic of Classical Acupuncture and then in 2003 he and his wife became the founders and directors of the Beacon Clinic, a centre for integrated medicine.

He regularly practices Tai Chi Yang style he is a Tae Kwon Do 2nd degree black belt instructor.

Martin married Sue in 1987 and they have three daughters Katie, Bethaney and Sophie.

Martin is registered with the General Medical Council, (membership No. 02710921), The British Holistic Medical Association and is a founder and Life Member of the Worsley Institute . He is also an accredited member of the British Medical Acupuncture Society (membership No. 04913)

He was a director of training and lecturer at the College of Traditional Acupuncture and a medical advisor to the British Acupuncture Accreditation Board.

In 2014 he completed a Master of Science degree in Western Medical Acupuncture with distinction.

He is a trained 'Mentor Supervisor in acupuncture' and he is also an 'Advanced teacher' of Classical five element acupuncture. He is a specialist guest lecturer at several universities and college, and has recently completed a Masters in Medical Education.
